Question: This task requires you to conduct a dietary assessment (using Nutritics software) for a volunteer 'client', and then produce a report to:
Describe how their food, energy, and nutrient intakes compared with current UK Dietary Reference Values, food-based dietary guidelines, and typical population intakes, and
Make practical recommendations for how they could improve their diet and address any specific concerns.
You firstly need to recruit a volunteer 'client' for your dietary analysis - this could be a family member/friend/housemate etc. but not yourself. Category ethics approval has been obtained for this task. There is a participant information sheet and consent form in the assessment tab of the module blackboard folder, which your volunteer should read and sign to confirm they consent to take part. The completed consent form must be submitted in the appendices of your report (or uploaded alongside your report).
Your client should complete a 3-day food diary (a blank template can be found on the module blackboard site) by listing all food and drinks consumed over three consecutive days (ideally two weekdays and a weekend day), and an estimate of the quantity of food consumed at each occasion. Encourage them to provide as much detail as possible (e.g., brand names of foods eaten, household measures to help you to estimate portion sizes, details of leftovers, etc), and check it with them once completed to ensure all relevant information is recorded, and to clarify any questions you have on the information recorded.
You should carry out a nutritional analysis of the completed food diary using Nutritics nutrient analysis software, and appropriately interpret the output to produce a written report for your client's attention.
