Challenging skill A challenging skill to teach nursing students during placement within an aged care facility is the administration of medications, particularly injectables. Despite completing medication modules, students are often not allowed to administer medications, and are only permitted to observe nursing staff. This limitation poses a challenge because once they become nurses, they will need to inject patients for the first time with minimal practice, and often they feel unsure about the process of medication administration, even though they are aware of the theory. The limitation also makes nursing staff feel uncomfortable as they feel they are being watched and are unable to include the students in areas of care that are needed. I collaborate with other healthcare professionals, like nurses and allied health staff, to enhance skill teaching. Their insights and techniques enrich the learning process. By creating a collaborative learning environment, the staff can work together to share the learning process and alleviate any feelings of being uncomfortable felt by the staff.
