It is crucial that we as nurses adhere to policy and procedure when it comes to interpretation for clients. You are so right to say that relying on friends and family should not be done. It is not to say that they are incapable of getting us the information needed but we need to keep a professional medical background involved not only for legal reasons but for accuracy in the patient care. The nurse was very biased about the patients culture and totally stereotyped the patients culture about food preferences. The nurse overall was very nonempathetic to the client and his son. She totally dismissed standards of care and code of ethics.
