Question

Skipping any one of these rights can result in a medication error. For instance, consider a scenario where a nurse overlooks the Right Drug. Imagine a busy hospital setting where two patients, Mr. Smith and Mr. Brown, are both due for medication. Mr. Smith is supposed to receive Metoprolol for his high blood pressure, and Mr. Brown is prescribed Metformin for diabetes. Due to a distraction, the nurse accidentally administers Metformin to Mr. Smith instead of Metoprolol. This mistake could lead to ineffective treatment of Mr. Smith's hypertension and could potentially expose him to side effects or adverse reactions from a drug not intended for his condition.
