Short report: A short report that provides a critical appraisal of given nursing intervention that is used as a basis for justifying its therapeutic use in the care and management of the acutely ill adult 1,000 words

Guidelines for writing the report:

Students should focus upon one strategy of care / nursing intervention that they have implemented whilst caring for an acutely ill (sepsis) patient in their acute care placement areas.

Useful Tip:

This short report is similar to a case study but differs as you are required to choose just one intervention, as opposed to focusing on the entire patient journey.

Within the report student should: (Discuss these three points and provide conclusion)

1) Introduce their patient and the intervention that they have chosen. (You will come up with a case study of a patient with sepsis. Students were supposed to use a case study of a patient with sepsis they encountered during clinical placement).

2) Justify the choice of patient (sepsis) and intervention (Intravenous Fluid)

3) Briefly discuss relevant pathophysiology and link this to the chosen intervention

Confidentiality must be maintained at all times during the report

Students should present the work as a report with headings and sections as below:

1) Introduction

2) Justification for selecting the intervention

3) Pathophysiology underpinning the intervention

4) Conclusion

This is not an essay it's a report and has to be structured as a report (Level 7)

Choose any therapeutic intervention, example Intravenous Fluid for a septic patient.

Justify why the patient need fluids / How much fluids

For instance, if you are writing about septic patient and fluid, focus on fluid and sepsis, be clear and concise

Do not forget to talk about sepsis and statistics national and international

Pathophysiology of sepsis and why Intravenous Fluid is required

Justification through primary research and guideline

Students should ensure they familiarise themselves with the grading criteria for level 7 writing.
