In a hypothesis test, two mutually exclusive hypotheses are specified, the Null Hypothesis and the Alternative Hypothesis.

When rigorous scientific experiments are performed, there is the control section where the status quo is maintained (e.g. via a pacebo) and the experimental section where a change occurs.

In inferential statistics, the status quo condition is represented by the Null Hypothesis and the changed condition is represented by the Alternative Hypothesis.

When you consider various case studies and  problems requiring hypothesis testing,  it is useful to identify the specific relations associated with each hypothesis.

Any comments or thoughts?
