Part 1
For the following investigative scenarios, state the null hypothesis, and the alternative hypothesis. Also identify the Type 1 and Type 2 errors which can result based on the hypotheses that you defined.
(a) You are a member of the HR department and a number of employees have to come to you claiming that they are suffering from deteriorating eyesight because they are working on computers for more than 4 hours a day.
(b) You are the administrator for a local hospital, and a large number of parents have come to you voicing concerns that placing infants in incubators leads to claustrophobia later in life.
(c) You are a member of the Facilities department, and a number of employees have come to you with the suggestion to place live plants in the office area to reduce the number of sick days taken by employees who work in that office.
Part 2

Null hypothesis and one-tailed-two-tailed test
: A researcher is looking at the relationship between home-schooling and achievement. She is hypothesizing that the home-schooled children will score higher than non home-schooled children on a standardized achievement test.
|
One tailed and two tailed alternative
: For each of the following hypotheses, decide whether a one-tailed or two-tailed test would be performed: Children with birth defects will score differently than the normal population on a measure of self-esteem.

Figure out how to determine gene order
: You find two mutations that cause blue wings (b blue is recessive to b+ normal) and spiny bristles (W wiry is dominant to W+ normal). They are linked to this chromosome (pictured). Based on test cross data, complete the map to include these genes.

Null hypothesis-alternative hypothesis-investigative
: For the following investigative scenarios, state the null hypothesis, and the alternative hypothesis. Also identify the Type 1 and Type 2 errors which can result based on the hypotheses that you defined.

What is one such mrna sequence
: How many DNA and RNA sequences are possible that give you this protein sequence?

Determine probability of completing exam in one hour
: Determine the probability that a student will complete the exam in more than 60 minutes but less than 75 minutes? Determine the probability of completing the exam in one hour or less?

Calculate the average number in the queue
: Sid Das Brick Distributors currently employs 1 worker whose job is to load bricks on outgoing company trucks. An average of 24 trucks per 8 hour shift, arrive at the loading platform, according to a Poisson distribution.
