Evaluate and apply the general principles of governance and professional responsibility relevant to the healthcare professional's role.
Describe the relationship between principles of governance and safety and quality in healthcare.
DESCRIPTION - Working effectively within a clinical governance (CG) framework requires a thorough understanding of the key concepts, principles, and pillars of CG and how these are applied in our workplaces. The aim of this assessment is to demonstrate your awareness of CG in your workplace through reflection on the principles of CG and the way an organisation applies these principles . In doing so you will develop and clarify your understanding of CG to better recognise gaps in practice, areas for improvement, and how to strengthen these for improved client outcomes.
In essay format, briefly explain the difference between CG and the N ational Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) standards. Then, analyse C G in your immediate workplace (or a previous workplace if you are not currently working), and appraise the CG framework used by your organisation as a whole. The following questions will help you formulate your analysis and appraisal :
What does CG look like in your workplace? What are some examples?
What does your organisation do to help staff recognise CG in your workplace? What are some examples?
Does your organisation's CG framework include the CG pillars and principles?
Does your team understand CG and is this reflected in their practice? Why or why not?
You should use contemporary research evidence and other scholarly literature to support their analysis and appraisal. As this is an academic essay, correct academic writing conventions and APA 7th edition formatting should be used. Avoid identifying your workplace or organisation in this paper.
Assessment Task 2: Problem Task
Aligned subject learning outcomes -

Describe the relationship between principles of governance and safety and quality in healthcare.
DESCRIPTION - Clinical governance (CG) exists to ensure continuous improvement in the delivery of healthcare. Successful initiatives to address clinical issues are underpinned and explicitly linked to CG objectives.
There are two parts to this assessment: design a pos ter about an issue for clinical care outcomes improvement; and provide a written justification for the elements and focus of your poster.
PART A: Poster (A3 size maximum) - Select 1 (one) of the following poster topics:
Poster one (designed to be placed in staff areas) - design a poster to engage staff and increase their awareness of reporting clinical errors. The poster should address the current status of the issue, the benchmark or set goal to be achieved, and the steps that will be taken to achieve the set goal and improve the clinical care outcomes;
OR
Poster two (designed to be placed in client areas) - design a poster to engage clients/consumers of your healthcare organisation about hand hygiene. The poster should educate clients/consumers of your healthcare organisation about the current status of the issue, the benchmark or goal to be achieved, and the steps that will be taken to achieve the set goal to ensure optimal care outcomes.
There are numerous websites that offer free templates to develop posters (see for example Canva.com) or you can create your own using Microsoft templates. You must convert your poster into a PDF before uploading it as part of your assessment submission.
PART B: Written paper (750 words):
Support your poster with a brief written paper that outlines which of the pillars of CG your poster addresses (it may be more than one pillar), and explains the rationale for what you have included in your poster. The following questions may assist you in developing your paper:
In what way/s is the information in your poster relevant to principles of CG?
How does your poster address the particular clinical issue? The intended audience?
Assessment Task 3: Project
Aligned subject learning outcomes -
Evaluate and apply the general principles of governance and professional responsibility relevant to the healthcare professional's role.
Critically analyse implications of change, complexity, and ambiguity in the healthcare context in relation to governance.
Define and apply clinical governance in relation to the provision of high standards of quality and safety in healthcare.
Describe the relationship between principles of governance and safety and quality in healthcare.
DESCRIPTION - In this assessment, you are required to design, in sufficient detail, a project for future implementation that is built on the principles of clinical governance (CG). Identify and describe an issue/problem, and consider how you might use CG principles to address the identified issue/problem and therefore, improve clinical outcomes. You are not expected to implement the project. However, you are expected to outline how and when you would evaluate the project, should it be implemented.
To beg in the planning for this assessment, you should identify an issue or problem from your area of work that you believe could be addressed through the application of CG principles. Examples to help stimulate your thinking about your own topic include hospital acquired infections, bedside handovers, skin tears, pressure area care, continuous professional development, medication administration, handwashing, discharge planning and education, and so on. Choose something that has an effect on the quality of care de livered to patients/clients. You must not choose topics used in assessment task 2.
In your paper, you should:
Describe the issue/problem, giving enough context for the reader to understand why this is an issue/problem.
Discuss current systems that are in place that link to the issue/ problem and how effective or ineffective these systems have been. Explore where the current failings may exist and how these issues can/have been identified.
Describe your proposed solution, supporting your ideas with relevant literature. Include strategies required to imp lement change in your workplace and identify any barriers and enablers for each strategy.
Explain how and when you would evaluate the effectiveness of your plan, supporting your ideas with relevant literature.
Your project should address the clinical issue utilising a CG framework and would therefore include a variety of elements from the CG pillars that are required for building effective CG. This must be made explicit in your paper.
This project paper should not exceed 1250 words.
Additionally, develop at least one strategic resource that you would use to ensure the success of your plan should also be included as an appendix. This could be a poster outlining the proposed changes that could be displayed in your workplace, a pamphlet or flyer, or a social media campaign.
