Biting an un-popped kernel of popcorn hurts! As an experiment, a self-confessed connoisseur of cheap popcorn carefully counted 773 kernels and put them in a popper. After popping, the un-popped kernels were counted. There were 86.

(a) Construct a 90 percent confidence interval for the proportion of all kernels that would not pop.

(b) Check the normality assumption.

(c) Try the Very Quick Rule. Does it work well here? Why, or why not?

Basic Statistics Questions & Answers

Critical value by chi square distribution

The hypothesis is to be tested at the 5% level of significance. The critical value from the table equals:

  Probability on discrete-distribution

When combining probabilities, to find the probability of one event AND another event, the separate probabilities should be

  One population mean-hypothesis test

Then explain your answer to someone who has never had course in statistics (but who is familiar with mean, standard deviation, and Z scores.)

  Normal distribution-standard deviation

Assume that the measurements came from a normal distribution. The variability of the manufacturing process is unknown means the same as the standard deviation is unknown.

Creating confidence interval for population mean

Create a 95% confidence interval for population mean. Is it sensible that population mean is 28 weeks? give explanation for your answer.

  Chi-square goodness of fit test

The chi-square goodness of fit test can be used when we:

  Critical f value chosen

What was the critical F value chosen?

What percent of sales representatives earn more than $42,000 per year?

Evaluate the confidence interval for the slope
