Measure your resting heart rate (that is, your heart rate when not performing physical activity) by counting your pulse. Place your index and middle fingers firmly (not too tightly) on your wrist, and count the number of pulses over one minute. Record the number on a piece of paper. Do you think this number is higher or lower than average? A sample answer could look like this: Normal resting heart rate for healthy adults is 60-100 beats per minute (bpm). Athletes and highly active individuals have heart rates closer to 60 bpm, as their hearts are used to pumping at higher rates for longer durations during exercise and activity?
