Consider nitrogen contained in a piston-cylinder. The gas is initially at 75 psi and 720 R°, and the initial volume is 45in³. The nitrogen is allowed to expand isothermally until the final pressure is 15 psi. During the process, the system does a certain amount of work.

1. Calculate the internal energy change for this process.

3. Calculate the required amount of heat transferred to the system assuming a reversible process.

4. Is the actual process reversible, irreversible, or impossible if the actual work done by the system is (a) W_out = 400 ft lb and (b) W_out = 500 ft lb

5. Calculate the required amount of heat transferred to the system if the actual work done by the system is (a) W_out= 400ft lb and (b) W_out = 500ft lb. Compare the required heat transfer for these two cases and the reversible process, and comment on the consistency of the results with
the second law requirement that the heat transfer is largest for the reversible process.
