Morena sees an ad in the newspaper for employment working with heavy equipment. The ad specifies that applicants must be fit and active and able to lift and carry loads of 64 kg.

a. Morena is very fit and active and in excellent health, but she's convinced that very few women could meet the requirement of lifting those heavy loads. This ad, she thinks, discriminates against women and is therefore against the law in Alberta. Is Morena right? Explain your answer.

b. Morena decides to apply for the job anyway and surprises herself by getting it, though there's a probationary period in her contract during which time she can be let go if she can't do the heavy work. During this period, Morena's male co-workers make it clear that they don't want her on the work site. They make rude, sexually suggestive comments, never include her in coffee-break activities, and give her all the worst jobs to do. Morena thinks that all this should constitute grounds for a complaint of harassment. Her friend, Maxine, however, tells her that unless her boss demands favours in return for something like a promotion or job security, no harassment is going on. Who's right? Morena or Maxine? Explain your answer fully.
