Client is a 24-year-old female discharged the previous day after delivering a 7 lb. 5 oz. female newborn. Client's partner answered the door because the client was bathing the newborn in the bathroom. Newborn is lying supine on a towel after being bathed and hair washed. Bathroom window is open. Newborn is crying, flexing all four extremities, skin pink over face and torso; skin mottled over hands and feet. Client drying the newborn with a small towel. Client reports feeling tired because of sleep being interrupted with the baby crying and needing to be breastfed. Client reports lochia is rubra of a small to moderate amount, fundus 3 cm below the umbilicus. Client denies clotting but experiences slight cramping when breastfeeding.
