Network diagramming

• The children want to go on a picnic on a holiday afternoon. You have several choices available - a lake, a park, and a zoo - each about 30 minutes driving distance from your house. A quick vote on which picnic spot to go to (lake / park / zoo) takes 2 minutes. Once you choose a place to go to, you'll need to go to the ATM to withdraw some cash (different picnic spots have different costs to them) and fill your car with gasoline (petrol) from a nearby gas station. Getting money from the ATM takes 5 minutes, while filling gas in your car takes 10 minutes.

• The eldest child offers to make egg sandwiches: it takes 10 minutes to boil the eggs, and another 10 minutes to make the sandwiches. You need 5 minutes to load the sandwiches and other supplies (paper towels, water, etc.) into the car before you start driving to the picnic spot.

-Draw a network diagram to describe the project of going on the picnic.

-How long will it be before you reach your picnic spot?
