Netflix is one of the most popular streaming services. The primary way that Netflix utilizes information technology is with data and customer centric marketing strategies. The company collects data based on what users have watched in the past, and what their personal television preferences are. This data is analyzed to provide each user with a specialized list of suggested shows and movies that correspond to the user's personal preferences. This personalized customer-centric usage of information technology gives Netflix a significant competitive advantage over other streaming companies, with "the company estimates that 70 per cent of the choices viewers make about what to watch are based on what is suggested to them" (Ladurantaye & Berube, 2013). The successful implementation of information technology by Netflix has resulted in higher usage of the streaming platform and more viewership from their customer base and is responsible for decreasing viewership of traditional media such as cable television.
