In this report you are outlining and analysing the connection between global trends (as detailed in the academic literature in this course) and specific current events / news stories. There are 3 steps to follow:

1) Choose a topic / issue / trend as covered in either week 4 or week 5 of the course:
• Democracy and non-democracy
• Neoliberalism and the changing role of the state;
Complete the relevant required readings and (as appropriate) some of the relevant recommended / further readings for your chosen week.

2) Find three relevant, English-language news articles from reputable sources, published in the last year, that are related to the academic literature from your chosen week, above;

3) Analyse how the news items / current events (as summarised in step 2) relate to the academic literature on the chosen topic / issue / trend from your chosen week (as summarised in step 1).

FORMAT
The report should conform to the following structure:
1. Summary of academic literature on your chosen topic / issue / trend; (500 words, approx)
2. Summary of the news articles found; (500 words, approx)
3. Analysis of how the news articles relate to the relevant academic literature (500 words, approx)

Formal language and academic referencing conventions should be used throughout. Ensuring that you are clear and succinct in your written expression is very important. This is a vital and highly transferrable skill.
