Question 1. Neoclassicalism differers from classicalism mainly in terms of punishment. One example of this is classicalism focuses mainly on punishment as a deterrent to prevent future crimes. Where as neoclassicalism focuses on a rehabilitation approach to preventing the individual from committing future crimes. I believe I favor the neoclassicalism approach. I believe punishment does not fix the issues, they worsen them. With rehabilitation, the deeper problem causing the individual to commit crimes can be address and resolved.

Question 2. Neoclassicalism is an approval for punishment. Classicalism is ways to prevent crimes. I favor the approach of Neoclassicalism due to the fact that it is true people will choose crime even when it is not necessary. Even in a perfect environment there will always be a random urge through people and wanting to commit crime. Therefore a punishment for crime is indeed necessary.

Question 3. The neoclassical schools assume that aggravating and mitigating factors should be taken into account for purposes of sentencing and punishing an offender. According to Schram and Tibbetts (2014), the only difference between the neoclassical school and the classical school is that the neoclassical takes into account contextual circumstances of the individual or situation that allows for increases or decreases in the punishment. For that, I am in favor of the neoclassicalism approach. Personally, I would not want a 10-year-old who shoplifted for their first time to receive the same punishment as a 40-year-old repeated shoplifter.

Question 4. Neoclassicalism differs from classicalism because it focuses on the restorative punishment approach to prevent crimes. Classicalism focuses on the deterrent approach to prevent crimes. I favor the neoclassicalism approach because it is rehabilitative. It gives offenders helpful resources and the chance to change their criminal ways while they are serving their time for what they did. The overall goal is to help them to incorporate themselves back into a functioning society without any criminal baggage.

Question 5. Classicalism focuses on how to deter people from committing crimes such as punishment, neoclassicalism is more focused on rehabilitation and deterring the offender from committing crimes in the future. I prefer neoclassicalism due to the fact that it gives the offender the benefit of the doubt and gives them the tools to stop committing crimes in the future. I do not think Classicalism is a good approach especially when it comes to modern day crime.
