Have three candidates in mind.

  • The first candidate, Geraldine Smith, is bright and enthusiastic with almost 7 years of experience that is directly transferable to the job description you are seeking. Geraldine, you have heard, has filed EEOC complaints against other previous employers; however, that is only a rumor.
  • The second candidate is a newly expecting mother who is having her first child in 7 months. Her availability in the marketplace was a result of downsizing and she is looking for a position with your organization. She most recently was a sales representative of one of your largest customers and she knows your product line, customer base, and operations quite well.
  • The third candidate, Wayne Compost, is a highly qualified, well-seasoned sales professional with almost 30 years of experience and the most recent experience was with a direct competitor. You have known Wayne for a number of years as you graduated with his son from college. He is applying for the sales representatives position but you know he has only 2-3 years before he is ready to retire.

Given the nature of these three candidates, what questions would you likely not ask of each individual, what questions would be appropriate to ask of each individual, and what legal theories, laws, or other employment issues should be considered in each of these candidates' cases? Within your response, include at least one relevant quote from your textbook.

Draw from your personal as well as professional experiences to answer the Discussion topics. Remember that this is a Discussion, so keep your responses succinct and focused on the topic.
