Expand this Yes, there is a difference between someone who uses prescribed narcotics daily and a person who smokes crack, heroin, weed, etc. daily. Prescribes narcotics are often used by patients to alleviate pain and to treat terminal illnesses such as cancer or any diseases. Doctors often prescribed narcotics to help to prolong the life of their patients or to eliminate whatever illness their patient has. On the other hand, the daily use of crack heroin weed, etc. should be considered an addiction. This is viewed as social deviance by communities because of the stigma that is attached to drug addicts. These additions may leave to more crime and violence in the community. Society is more accepting of people who use prescribed drugs than those who use them for recreation.
