Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colourless, odourless gas resulting from the burning of hydrocarbons such as in a poorly functioning furnace or in vehicle emissions. CO can bind with hemoglobin to form carboxyhemoglobin. Hemoglobin's affinity for CO is 200 times greater than its affinity for O2. This makes it hard for the body to remove the CO molecules on the hemoglobin once they are attached. The initial symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning are 'flu-like' symptoms such as dizziness, headache and vomiting. However, when left unchecked, CO poisoning can result in unconsciousness, loss of blood flow to the vital organs and, eventually, death.(Source: Bleecker, M.L.(2015). Carbon Monoxide Intoxication. Handbook of Clinical Neurology. Elsevier B. V.)
-a) Name the gases normally carried by hemoglobin in the body.
-b) Using your knowledge of the circulatory and respiratory systems, provide a possible detailed explanation of the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning mentioned above.
Two identical objects each hold a net charge of q = 2e. If the gravitational force among the two objects exactly cancels the electrostatic force among the objects, what is the mass of each object?
Determine the flux of particles escaping from the exobase of Earth's atmosphere using a number density at the exobase of 10^5 particles/cm^3 and a temperature of 700K.
An electron moving parallel to x axis has an initial speed of 2.57x106 m/s at the origin. Its speed is reduced to 2.72x105 m/s at the point x=2.02cm. Compute the potential difference, in Volts, among the origin and that point.
