Green Spring Gardens is a public park and nature center located at 4603 Green Spring Rd. (off of Braddock Rd.). Start in the outdoor native plants walk and work your way back uphill to the nature center.You must accompany this assignment with a photo of yourself at an identifiable place at Green Spring Gardens.Of note, the personnel at Green Spring Gardens are very happy to help students with any questions while you are there so keep this in mind as you visit and complete these exercises.

1. List the Latin and common name for five plant species native to Virginia.
2. List the Latin and common name for two species whose flowers attract butterflies. (Found in the Native plant area)
3. On the native Virginia plants walk, you will find some plants with reference to their habitat preference.
a. List the Latin and common name for the plant that is found in calcium-rich glades & moist to wet-moist prairies in Virginia:

4. There is a "swale" area just uphill from the native plant walk area. The swale area has a little bridge which may have some water underneath it or this might just be a low lying area that stays moist.

5. Plants have evolved traits to maximize their survival and reproduction in their particular environment. Many of these traits include adaptations to survive harsh environmental conditions. Observe the leaves of plants in the rock garden (aka the xeroscape), and then compare those to leaves on plants in the upland and swale garden areas.

c. Do some research about this plant and write several interesting fact about it. Include the website address from which you found this information. This could include such facts as where this plant is found, historical uses, medicinal uses, etc.
