Many inherited diseases can be caused by mutations in the promoter region of a gene, even though there is no mutation in the transcribed region of the gene. If the sequence of a promoter region is altered (no longer ATATT), how would gene expression be affected? Would the protein coded for by that gene be made? Why or why not?
