Question

Harper is a 13-year-old female who is a multi-sport athlete. She is presenting for a follow up appointment after an ER visit and PICU stay for an injury she sustained while playing a soccer game. She was diagnosed with a radial and ulnar fracture of the right arm and a concussion with positive LOC. She has 14 staples in her scalp on the right parietal area. She was hospitalized for 3 days and has been home for 4. She has returned to school for half days the past two days. She has found it very difficult to focus, concentrate, and tolerate the bright lights in the classroom. She continues to have headaches and occasional blurred vision. She has not yet had her follow up appointment with the neurologist. Her parents cannot recall the name of the neurologist she saw as an inpatient and aren't aware of his contact information. They felt he was very difficult to understand and they feel he may have advised a follow up visit, but again, they emphasize that they couldn't understand most of the conversation with him. Her staples appear healing, without s/s complication. Her father would like to know when the staples will come.
