SCENARIO
You are to research and understand the relevant environmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety as they relate to your chosen workspace. You will need to look at the federal, state and/or local level, and into codes of practice and standards to successfully complete this assessment.
With this in hand, you are to survey your selected workspace and compile a short report on the hazards you have found in this area. The report must include photos and a thorough description of the hazard, why it is a hazard, what danger or risks it presents, what control measures can be employed to prevent this and who could do this. This information must then be translated into point form in the SWMS below. There is no specific length to the report however you should find a minimum of 4 hazards in your space, but please feel free to list and detail as many as you like should you find more.
TASK
You are required to refer to the brief below complete this assessment.
1. You will select a workspace to be surveyed and assessed for occupational hazards, and you must identify and explain the resources that are used in the work area.
2. Consult your teacher to get clarification relating to the environmental work requirements and seek feedback to improve your personal performance, professional development and work outcomes.
3. Guided by the OHS policies and procedures of the workspace and the WorkSafe Victoria guidelines, you will use the Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) template in Appendix to highlight four (4) environmental risks/hazards in your assigned area.
4. Furthermore, using the SWMS template, you must follow the workplace procedures and make suggestions for improvements to environmental workplace practices and work plans. Use SWMS to record the suggestions.
5. Accompanying the SMWS report, students are also required to write a short report (400-500 words) using MS Word, showing photos of the site, the hazards identified and a brief description of their rationale behind the control measures you have chosen. Please also make reference to how the uses of the space will benefit from these proposed measures.
The report must be structured as follows:
a. Cover page include name, course and student id
b. Content includes area surveyed, hazards and risks found (including photos).
6. Teacher will assess your self-management technique report covering:
a. Planning the work to be carried out for the task
b. Managing time and learning resources
c. Work autonomously and consistently, set personal goals, targets, priorities and plans to complete assignment by due date
d. Manage and overcome challenges and competing demands in completing assignment (RK16)
7. All performance criteria must be addressed to satisfactorily complete this Assessment Task
8. Once complete, please save your assignments to the correct folder and upload your assignments to Canvas by the date and time specified.
9. Please close down and exit the computer system using OHS safe work practices.
Where
You will complete the inspection aspect of this assessment in an RMIT workspace, supervised by the Teacher or a specialist workshop staff member. The written component of this assessment can be completed inside or outside of the classroom in your own study time.
How
You will be assessed against the criteria listed in the marking guide in Section B of this task. To achieve a satisfactory result, you will need to address all criteria satisfactorily.
