Question

The mRNA COVID-19 vaccines were the first mRNA therapeutics approved for human use. What is the current understanding of the adverse event profile of the mRNA COVID-19 vaccines (e.g., what are the most common AEs? What is the difference in the AE profile in the first vs. second or third doses of the mRNA vaccines?) Provide a discussion of the safety profile of the mRNA COVID-19 vaccines, including known adverse events, such as local and systemic reactions, as well as rare but serious events. Additionally, discuss the various pharmacovigilance and vaccinovigilance activities that are being used to monitor the safety of these vaccines, including passive surveillance systems such as the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) and active surveillance systems such as the CDC's V-safe program.
