In regard to Maslow's Theory, I'd like to consider the two extremes the bottom and the top of Maslow's pyramid. Is there ever perhaps a false assumption that anyone who is employed must already have the bottom tier, physiological needs, fully satisfied? Or does the reality exist that people coming to work might not have their basic needs for food, clothes, and shelter fully satisfied? If this is the case, can employers expect the highest quality output from these individuals? To what extent is it the employer's responsibility to address this gap? At the other extreme, let's look at "self-actualization" on the top tier. Is it universal that all individuals are striving for self-actualization as it relates to the work place? Or do some employees' motivational concerns peak somewhere lower within the hierarchy?
