As you know, each business unit can bring together specialized skills/capabilities that can position the business to provide better services and products. These services and products are improved because they can be tailored to serve special consumer needs or to create specialized products. One of the largest challenges could be providing a medium for the various departments/sections to communicate and collaborate.

Despite the addition of this state-of-the-art technology, why then does the collaboration between departments do not increase naturally? In fact, why aren't employees motivated to collaborate via the new technology? Could the reasons be that many managers deal with silos and hidden agendas? Is this merely about establishing a systems thinking approach where a holistic and big-picture approach to the organization is established?

One solid approach to drive motivation is to determine what each team member or section wants. In other words, what can possibly motivate each member to move towards a common goal? Often times you will find that recognition will motivate individuals to move towards common goals; however, recognition must be fairly distributed to be effective.
