Teaching Plan 

Choose one:

1. Mother with T2DM or Gestational Diabetes
2. Mother with Preterm Newborn
3. Mother with Substance Use Disorder

Use the following format:

1. 1. Invent a mother
      • Medical history
      • Social history
      • Gravida, para, and current gestational age if pregnant
   2. Newborn Assessment
      • Perform and outline a head-to-toe newborn assessment
      • Newborn diagnosis, plan and interventions (Based on what you would anticipate with the mother's diagnosis)
        • Identify the newborn diagnosis that is relevant to the mother's diagnosis and reflects the newborn's priority need.
        • Outline the plan for this newborn, with the identified newborn diagnosis in mind.
        • List the appropriate nursing interventions you will put into place for this newborn.
        • Example: Mother with T2DM: The nurse would anticipate a newborn with hypoglycemia.  Outline the plan for a potentially hypoglycemic newborn.  Outline the interventions for a hypoglycemic newborn.
