Adults' responses to crying can influence development across domains (e.g., physical, cognitive, social, emotional) not just in childhood but in adolescence and adulthood too. This begs the question, should parents let their children cry? If you were a teacher, counselor, nurse, or other care provider, given what you've learned about emotional development from the readings and lecture, what would you recommend (pick up the child right away, let them cry for a period of time before responding, choice depends on x, etc.)?
