Question

Jessica is a 16 year old student with moderate cognitive disabilities. She is currently in her first year of high school; she plans to remain in school until she is 21 years old. She is completing a specialized course of study that includes both applied, functional academics and vocational preparation through a district credential. Jessica lives with her parents who are very supportive of her plans to remain in school and receive as much instruction as possible. After high school, Jessica plans to live in the home with her parents and continue to participate in a center-based program that is housed at the Disabilities and Special Needs Board. She wants to get a job through the center after high school and possibly clean houses. She can tend to her basic needs such as personal hygiene. However, she is unable to drive a car and it is not foreseen that she will be able to drive. Jessica will rely on others to transport her to and from desired locations. She has difficulty recognizing signs in the community such as enter/exit, street signs, building signs, etc.
