ASSIGNMENT INTRODUCTION - Please read the assignment about the Sohail family case study and then complete each task in order to produce your report.
The context for the case study report - You are a Step Up to Social Work student working in Farringdon Vale Children's Services. You have been asked by your supervisor to produce a report on the Sohail family for a strategy meeting. It is expected that your report will make no more than three recommendations for the strategy meeting to consider. Your report will be written in the third person. The structure of your report should include the following:
Report layout including subsections:
- Cover page: ID number, Subject and Topic.
- Introduction (200 words approximately).
- Task 1 (700 words approximately).
- Task 2 (1000 words approximately).
- Task 3 (900 words approximately).
- Conclusion and Recommendations (200 Words approximately).
- Reference list.
Case Study: The Sohail Family
Introduction -
Using the case study notes on the Sohail family you should explain the purpose of your report. You will give the reader a brief outline of the issues that the report will address.
Task 1 - Discuss the different stages of the lifecycle
Using the case study notes for the Sohail family identify and discuss the different stages of Jessica's lifecycle.
Assessment criteria -
- Knowledge and understanding of the different stages of the life cycle.
- Application of relevant theories used to explain lifecycle development.
Points to consider -
Definitions for lifecycle development.
Outline each stage of the lifecycle.
Discuss the stage of the lifecycle for nine year old Jessica including her social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development within each of her life stages of development.
Explain the concept of nature and nurture in relation to Jessica and her siblings' development.
Task 2 - Analyse different needs at different points of the lifecycle
Analyse Jessica's needs at this stage of her lifecycle
Assessment criteria
Knowledge and understanding of individual needs and how need can influence development.
Ability to analyse how the dynamics of race/ ethnicity/ identify or culture may impact or influence development.
Ability to analyse the needs at different stages of the lifecycle using a wide range of resources.
Points to consider -
Definitions of needs.
Identify and discuss one theory of needs e.g Maslow or Bradshaw's Taxonomy of needs.
Outline a theory concerning race, ethnicity, identity or culture that may relate to Jessica's needs.
Discuss Jessica's needs, why it is a need and the consequences of her needs not being met.
Analyse how Jessica's needs are interrelated and how these needs relate to her future development.
Consider the socio-economic context of the family.
Task 3 - Apply theories of lifecycle development
Choose one theory that is relevant to explain the dynamics of the Sohail family focusing on Jessica. Outline and assess how this theory helps inform the professionals' discussion for the Strategy meeting.
Assessment criteria -
Knowledge and understanding of one lifecycle development theory.
Ability to apply the relevant theory to Jessica's lifecycle.
Ability to consider possible limitations to the lifecycle theory.

It is important to select one lifecycle development theory that is relevant to Jessica's development. There are numerous theories that can be applied. Any one of the following can be discussed and applied to Jessica's development.

You are expected to provide a conclusion and make at least one recommendation within your report for the Strategy meeting. Your conclusions are the inferences you have drawn or points that you have made in your discussion.
The recommendations are the steps that you think should be taken based on your discussion. Your recommendations should be written in the 'should' or 'should be' style.
