These "mis-statements" are based on the Darwin's finches case study in your textbook reading. These are statements that are not precise enough to be accurate.

Mis-statement - During the drought, finches evolved deeper beaks.

The misconception is that evolutionary change occurs in individual organisms.

"During the drought, finches with shallow beaks did not survive, such that after the drought the average beak depth in the population was greater than before the drought."

Mis-statement 1: Natural selection provided the finches with a way to be better at obtaining food so they could survive the drought.

Mis-statement 2: If humans introduced new non-native predators to the island, finches would still be OK because they can simply evolve what they need to survive.

Mis-statement 3: Finches will continue to evolve bigger and deeper beaks until they are capable of eating all the different kinds of food available.
