Drug X has a minimum effective concentration of 5 mg/L and a maximum safe concentration of 20 mg/L. The patients receiving the drug all have a volume of distribution of 28.5 L. The elimination half life of the drug is 8 h. Patient 1: Give a 500 mg intravenous infusion over 30 min, and follow the plasma drug concentration for the next 23.5 h. (give an infusion of 1000 mg/h for 0.5 h, then change the dosage to zero for 23.5 h). Patient 2: Give a 250 mg intravenous infusion over 30 min, and follow the plasma drug concentration for the next 23.5 h. Patient 3: This patient has renal disease, causing the elimination half life of the drug to increase to 16h. Give this patient a 500 mg intravenous infusion over 30 min, and follow the plasma drug concentration for the next 23.5 h.

How long does the drug concentration remain above the minimum effective concentration for each of the patients? Discuss any differences between the three patients.
