FMLA 

A middle-aged employee at a retail store is responsible for her disabled child and elderly mother. She often takes time off to manage driving them to the doctor's office and other appointments. Colleagues are resentful of the time the employee takes off, but the time off is all unpaid and required under the FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act). Under FMLA guidelines, employees can take up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave per year. (Furthermore, time off for military reservists called to active duty is undetermined.)
