Case Study

A local council has been elected on a platform of rolling out a smartcity project to minimise water and energy waste. At its core, this will mean equipping every council owned water meter, pump, streetlight and any other electric devices to the Internet of Things. The city has committed to investing in the very latest IoT and LPWAN technology. They also want a complete solution, covering the network technologies, cybersecurity issues, as well as infrastructure to allow 3rd-party developers to run apps that utilise the data generated by their network. The council has contracted you to design all aspects of the network, including the physical/logical network, cloud infrastructure and cybersecurity. While your focus is on the design stage, the council also wants you to deliver a small prototype of one component as a demonstration of feasability (if your prototype is impressive, the council will likely award you contract for building the network in the next stage). The prototype may be real, virtual or simulated, and only needs to be of one component, not the entire network.

Interim Report:

• Detailed description of the problem from a business and technical perspective
