Jana has worked for a lot of different restaurants in the past. Some were chain/franchise's and others were owned by private individuals or families. She noticed that she enjoyed working for the places that allowed for employee input and allowed for her to try out suggestions she thought would be better for the customer and employees. She appreciated their openness to her ideas. She also noticed they made efforts to have the employees get together in social settings outside of work to bond and socialize. She never felt pressured to attend these events, but found she enjoyed hanging out with her coworkers outside of the restaurant. They grew closer to each other and she often thought of her coworkers as extended family since she spent so much time with them.
Jana wants to have the same type of environment for her employees. She knows they've been struggling and wants to be more of an innovative organization. Jack isn't really sure about this idea; couldn't this free range of trying ideas create chaos? Shouldn't there be some clear lines of authority? Jack needs some convincing that Jana's idea of shifting to an innovative structure could help employee morale and work for their business.
TASK:
1. Provide an explanation of an innovative organization to Jack. Include 2 examples of how innovative organizations are different than traditional organizations.
2. Describe to Jana how a positive corporate culture may fulfill what she's wanting for her employees while staying to Jack's traditional organization set up.
3. Determine what type of organization would be best for Mainsail (traditional or innovative) and describe to both Jack and Jana why you think your choice would be the best for their employees
