According to the U.S. Statistical Abstract, for the millions of illegal immigrants coming to the United States in 2000, the probability of coming from Mexico was 0.69. The probability of coming to Texas was 0.15.

a. If the event of coming to Texas and the event of coming from Mexico were independent, what would be the probability of an illegal immigrant coming from Mexico and to Texas?

b. Explain why those two events should be dependent, not independent.

c. The actual probability of coming from Mexico and to Texas is almost surely different from the one you calculated in part (a); is it higher or lower?
