Question

A middle-aged woman presents with agitation, confusion, fever, tachycardia, and diaphoresis. Her daughter states that nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain preceded these symptoms. The patient has no history of cardiac disease, diabetes, or substance abuse. She was started on some "antidrug'' 2 weeks ago and is scheduled for some form of throat surgery next week (per her daughter). Based on this history, the adult-gerontology primary care NP immediately orders:

TSH, T4 Urinalysis. Spinal tap. Computed tomography of the head.
