Microsoft Operating Systems

Microsoft, after 14 years, ended support of Windows XP. Shortly after Microsoft introduced Windows 10.

It falls right into a very standard Life Cycle model. The support costs were getting higher and higher with no new sales to help carry the load. Windows 7 is now the work horse by many companies and ireviduals.

Windows 8 and 8.1 were not well received. But. according to Microsoft, over 11G million computers have Windows 10 as their operating systems by March of 2016.

So, please comment on why Microsoft did that.

Note: I bought a new computer in the summer 2015 with Windows 8.1 as its operating system. Microsoft notified me that I could upgrade to Microsoft 10 within one year of purchasing my computer at no charge. IT at Lasell told me to wait awhile before the change. So during spring break of 2016 I upgraded with no problems.

Note #2 Community College of Rhode Island upgraded right after Microsoft made it available. I had about 6 months to get used to Microsoft 10 before I installed it on my home computer.
