Assignment: Developing a time frame for your project

Learning Outcome 1: Apply the principles of strategic planning process.

Learning Outcome 2: Estimate project cost and time.

Learning Outcome 3: Examine the principles of resource identification, allocation and management.

Part 1. Find an example of a project case study that is not in your text book. You can do this by searching the internet and/or reading the literature. You may have an example of a case study from real life experience and you can write about it if you wish.

Part 2. The case study must describe the project in detail (as you'll see below) from beginning to end and must be a bona fide study, not some advertising blurb for a product or a consulting approach.

Part 3. The case needs to demonstrate the importance of good planning processes that led to success or failure of the project.

Part 4. Write a report of around 2,500 words but please don't exceed 3,500 words in which you:
• Identify the common aspects of planning that they display.
• Compare these aspects with reference to the literature.
• Analyse any outliers (uncommon or unusual planning activities) from the case study that might show that the others don't.
• Critically evaluate this unusual activity with reference to the literature.
• What was missing in the case study, from the point of view of planning, and that you would have included had you been the author.
• Justify your answer with reference to the literature.
• Examine what this case tells us about the role of planning in project management.
• Summarise your overall analysis

Part 5. Ensure that you reference all of your sources using the correct APA referencing conventions.
