This assignment involves finding errors in the method section of a sample student paper, located on the next page of this assignment. This assignment is very similar to the last one. Your job is to find the errors in the paper. The errors can be in formatting, grammar, or content. You need to correctly identify 10 errors.
Method
Participants
Participants were observed using a random sampling method. I sat in an inconspicuous area near the entrance and recorded the first 20 students who walked through the Collaborative Study floor, and the first 20 students who walk through the Quiet Study floor. "Student" was defined as anyone carrying a backpack or book bag. This required presence of a backpack was added to rule out the possibility of repeatedly recording students who may have left briefly and were returning to their study space.
Materials
Materials consisted of a notepad with a page organized for collecting data. The page is divided into two columns indicating whether the library floor is Collaborative Study or Quiet Study, with 20 rows to represent each student.
Procedures
At approximately 10 am, I sat in a chair close to the en trance of the study floor, and wrote "yes" or "no" in each student row to indicate whether the first 20 students who walked through the entrance had coffee. Desks and tables at the Quiet Study floor had dividers which enforced solitary work, while couches and tables on the Collaborative Study floor are arranged in a circle to promote socialization. These are default characteristics of each floor, which were not modified by the researcher in any way during the study. "Coffee" was defined as any cup designed for hot beverages, whether reusable, disposable, or representative of a specific brand. The independent variables were the Collaborative Study and Quiet Study library floors, and the dependent variable was the presence of coffee.
