Part A: Reflective Journal

Students are required to identify the most important new idea or concept encountered in each weeks learning and provide a maximum 250-
word explanation as to why you found that idea or concept to be novel or important. You must record the weekly reflection in your own personal and private discussion board for all weeks. Journals will be submitted weekly and early ungraded feedback will be provided to the class via canvas. Individual graded feedback will be provided after the final submission in week 6. Regular weekly posts are expected and included in the grading rubric.

You are required to write a brief reflection on your perspectives on each of the different schools of economic thought to help identify how your perspective may or may not have changed as a result of engaging with the course materials. You will be assessed on your awareness, evaluation and regulation of your own personal learning experiences in the subject.

The purpose of this assessment is to build your awareness of your own learning journey and to consider what you have learned, how you have learned, the reasons why you have learned, and how and if that learning has challenged or influenced your world view.

Critically examining different perspectives and reflecting on how they might shape your own personal perspectives, is a key skill relevant to
developing diverse and innovative solutions.

What

In your response you could refer to your learning and understanding of the school of thoughts relative to the following:
• World view: the ideological lens through which the members of the school refer to the real world
• The assumptions they make about the world (questioned and unquestioned)
• Methods: how they study the economy
• Examples of Applications- research areas or policy directions How, why and what for?

Your reflective journal practice should consider some or all of the following:
• Does this learning experiences connect with, or relate to, other learning experiences you have had
• What challenges did you experience when engaging with this concept/ topic
• What is your personal opinion of this concept / topic
• What is the relevance / application of this topic in the broader context of your study
• What questions did this topic raise for you that makes you curious and motivates you to explore more

Concept maps are a graphical tool that is used to visualise meaningful relationships among concepts. They are used as a knowledge representation tool capturing the relationships between topics. They can help you to manage concepts into sub concepts, synthesise information, see a higher picture and develop higher order thinking skills and strategies. Concept maps consist of two things, concepts and the relationship between them.

In this assessment you are required to present a concept map for each school of thought studied from weeks 2 to 6 (note: 12 in total). The output generated from this assessment task will be used to support assessment Tasks 2 and 3 and provide students with a visualisation that helps:
- Determine the focus of the concept map - i.e a given school of thought
- Identify key concepts related to this school of thought
- Determine and label the relationships between the key concepts
Concepts may relate to the ideological lens of the school of thought, the assumptions they make about economic behaviour, the methods they apply when they study the economy and the research areas they tend to focus on. In class activities are designed to support students in their concept mapping skill development.

The software tool chosen will be MIRO. Miro is a software tool that is used and valued by industry.
