Synthesis of dimedone. Sodium methoxide in methanol and dimethyl propanedioate are added to a flask, when dissolved mesityl oxide is added and the reaction mixture is refluxed for an hour. Then a rotary evapourator is used to remove the methanol. Sodium hydroxide was added and the reaction mixture is refluxed for another hour. What is the equation for the reaction that occurred when aqueous NaOH was added to the reaction vessel, following the evapouration of methanol please.
