During the deliberation session with the Director, each committee member vehemently stood by their position vis-à-vis the scores attributed to both candidates. The linguistic coordinator confronted the other two members of the committee and pointed out weaknesses in their respective evaluations. She argued that the assessment by the HR coordinator lacked pedagogical and business considerations. She also mentioned that the manager's assessment neglected the importance of the competitive contractual bidding aspect and overemphasized the issue of employee retention. The HR coordinator and manager took the comments personally and became emotional; they abruptly criticized the linguistic coordinator for neglecting the fact that Demidov was overqualified and for not paying enough attention to his Russian accent. It is common practice at CLC that after deliberations, the Director immediately confirms the hiring of the new instructor based on the committee's ranking schemes. However, with this particular case, the Director was hesitant to make a decision and requested time to reflect on the points raised during the meeting before officially offering the position to a candidate.

1 What do you think about the rationale of how each member of the hiring committee assessed each candidate?

2 What advice would you give to the Director in order to hire the most suitable candidate for a position?
