Approximately 10 million people in the United States use prescription sleep aids.

  • More than 30% of the population suffers from insomnia in the U.S.
  • Women are up to twice as likely as men to suffer from insomnia.

Sally is a 50 year old woman who has recently been prescribed suvorexant ( (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.Belsomra (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.) (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. for insomnia. At the follow up visit, she reports getting home from work every day and not remembering what route she drove, and she thinks she may be going "crazy". She wonders if this is due to her new medication. She has no other medical issues and takes a daily vitamin. Also, she is concerned about the cost of the new medication, because her insurance is limited.
