Mrs. Smith, a 65-year-old woman, is admitted to the medical-surgical unit with a diagnosis of pneumonia. She lives alone and has a history of anxiety. Her medical history includes hypertension, diabetes mellitus type 2, and osteoarthritis. Mrs. Smith's daughter lives out of state and cannot visit frequently due to work commitments.
