You are the nurse. You are working on a medical-surgical unit and your patient is needing a central line placed. The general surgeon comes to the floor and asks for you to assist with central line placement at the bedside. This is allowed by floor and facility policy for medical-surgical units. Utilize the Clinical Decision-Making Chart in Figure 4-6. Discuss what factors would guide your decision. If there are other factors outside of the chart that would influence your decision, share those factors. Finally, decide whether you assist the MD and why.
