Mechanical Assignment - Gear Box Questions
PLEASE WORK ON THE FOLLOWING SECTIONS.
1. Introduction: Introduce the design problem (in your own words), explaining what need the design will satisfy. Define the primary function of the design. Define who you expect will use the product, and explain any important attributes of the target user(s).
2. Constraints: Explain all design constraints. Define key dimensions, especially for where your design will connect or interface with other systems. Explain any relevant shape or size limitations. Define any restrictions on types of materials that could be used in the design. Describe the operating environment, if relevant.
3. Loading & Boundary Conditions: Define the loading conditions that you will later simulate to test your design. One loading condition must be static, and the other condition must be cyclical (i.e. to test for fatigue). Loading conditions will typically consist of applied forces, moments, and torques. These loading conditions cannot be arbitrary: they must be based on actual data. You may need to simplify, do some calculations, and estimate. Justify how and why you selected the loading conditions.
4. Relevant Codes & Standards: Find at least one code or standard that may apply to your design problem. Explain how it specifically applies to your product.
