LO 2: Evaluate organizations' approaches to the design and configurations of various international business processes or global supply chains
LO 3: Integrate functional business strategies with both technical and organizational issues surrounding international processes.
LO 4: Apply various strategic management tools and marketing Techniques to analyze the strengths and weakness of various corporations in UAE and abroad, relative to their ability to manage the dynamics of international business environments.
LO 5: Develop an international business plan that, among other things, examines the various dynamic changes affecting international business environments.
LO 6: Prepare short- and long-term strategic plans for international business.
Project
The purpose of this project is to select one of UAE based businesses with international presence to evaluate the internal and external factors which affect their businesses. Using the right analysis will help you to develop a short and long-term strategic plan for the business.
You will be working in groups of 3-4 students each.
A list of businesses in UAE is provided at the end of this document together with allocation to different groups. You may choose a different company after discussing with and convincing my colleague Salwa - her contact details are provided in this document as well.
The structure of the project will be as followed:
1. Introduction
Give a brief general background to the subject of the report, the purpose of it and explain the importance of your project.
2. Company overview
You have to write about the history of the company, founded year, physical location, the type of the business and more.
3. SWOT Analysis
SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) analysis is a framework used to evaluate a company's competitive position and to develop strategic planning. You will be using this analysis to determine only the internal factors which affect the business, so you will be
analyzing only the strength and weaknesses of your business. Do self-reading of Ch 11 and other resources for better understanding of SWOT
4. PESTEL Analysis
PESTEL Analysis is a strategic framework used to evaluate the external environment of a business by breaking down the opportunities and risks into political, economic, social, technological, environmental and legal factors. The main purpose of using this analysis is to determine the various dynamic changes affecting international business environments.
• The PESTLE Analysis (following approach below)
o Start political
o Move on to economic factors
o Examine social influences
o Look at technological factors
o Understand the impacts of the legal system
o Study how environmental changes affect the company
5. Develop a short and long strategic plan
After conducting both SWTO and PESETEL analysis for your business, create a short and long strategic plan.
A. The short plan will focus on the strength and weakness of the company as observed through SWOT analysis, and a short strategic plan explaining how the company should manage these factors to improve the overall performance of the company.
B. The long-term plan will be developed after analyzing the PESTEL analysis to be used in managing the plan to minimize the risks and to take advantage of the opportunities to maintain the success of the company.
6. Conclusion
Summarize the key ideas you discussed throughout the project and what you have learnt from it.
7. Recommendation
Share your opinion of how the overall performance of the business and your recommendation of how to improve the business plan to be aligned with the internal and external factors.
8. References
List all the references which you have used in the report.
