He spent a large sum to build a strong bridge from the island to the mainland as an investment. Last winter, he sold the entire island, including the warehouse and bridge, to Godilas. At the island warehouse, Godlias paid Maximus 4 bags of gold and the transaction was officially closed. Afterwards, Maximus got on his carriage and rode away towards the mainland to his home. Unbeknownst to Maximus at the time, one of the gold bags fell out of the carriage and landed on the bridge as he crossed. Both men now claim ownership of the bag.
